Return to Wellington and Auckland

Not a lot of pictures I took going north from Franz Josef to just south of Greymouth where I took the Otira Highway to a place that was so incredibly beautiful I wish I'd  been able to stop and take pictures. The emphasis here is on "wish" because no person alive today has ever "stopped" on the trip across Arthur's Pass in Arthur's Pass National Park. Certainly not on a day with weather the way it was when I went across. If I'd pulled over I would have needed a helicopter and, for all intents and purposes, it looked like the bridge didn't exist ... we were driving on a cloud.

Neither did I take any pictures at the University of Canterbury as I was busy teaching. So the pictures pick up on the flight north from Christchurch as the plane approaches the south coast of North Island and Wellington.

A "basic" room at the Auckland Hilton   The patio overlooking the harbour
Auckland at night   First light in the morning
First light Auckland Harbour   First light Auckland downtown
Sunrise Auckland Harbour   A bit of culture for mum

And from here I took my rental car back to the airport, flew out of Auckland International Airport around 19:00 and arrived in San Francisco in time for lunch. An hour going through immigation, an hour waiting for the plane back to Seattle, I was home in time to eat my second dinner of the day.
